When the Connecter add-on is enabled, dropping a .blend asset into Blender's viewport from Connecter brings different options for objects (Link Objects and Append Objects) and materials – (Link Materials and Append Materials).
The integration recognizes the object below the mouse cursor and the type of asset (Object or Material). Based on that, the options may vary.
Append or Link Object
Enters Populate mode that allows you to:
- Align - the asset follows the normals of the surfaces.
-
Rotate - freely or in 45° and 90° increments. To enter rotation mode:
- Click and hold the right mouse button
- Move the mouse to the left or to the right while holding the right mouse button to rotate the object.
- Use the CTRL key to enter 90-degree rotation mode
- Use the SHIFT key to enter 45 degrees rotation mode
- Release the right mouse button to exit rotation mode, or click the left mouse button or press ENTER while holding the right mouse button to place the object in its location.
- Use the ESC key to exit the rotation mode and go back to placement mode. This will also reset the rotation angle to the previous value before the rotation was initiated.
- Place - use the left mouse button to place the object recursively.
Append or Link Materials
Gives you the following options:
- Option to choose which material you want to assign from the dragged asset.
- Assign mode that allows you to click on an object.
- Options to choose which materials should be replaced with the new ones.
Replace
When an object is dragged on top of another, you get the options to:
- Replace by linking object.
- Replace by appending object.
Both options will allow you to replace all linked instances of the objects.
NOTE: The customized append and linking options are only available for .blend assets. They won't appear if you drag & drop .FBX, .OBJ or any other format.
