The Metadata Harvester can encounter issues during the processing of the assets. Any errors will be logged in an Error log, which can be accessed from the “Open log” button on the top of the Metadata Harvester Interface:

These are the most common errors you may encounter while using the Metadata Harvester tool and the potential reasons for them to occur:

  • “Asset is missing” – The asset can be missing in the file system and can’t be processed, or the file representing the asset can be corrupted or invalid.

  • “File format could not be determined” – This error can occur when reading metadata and thumbnails from some 3d models or video assets.

  • “Renderer not available” – This error can occur when the metadata of assets like .max, .mat, and .c4d assets doesn’t contain the renderer of the scene.

  • “Reading any metadata failed” – Connecter logs any missing metadata as an error. That ensures the logged information is detailed enough to determine what issues occurred during the processing and why the information for these assets is unavailable.

  • “Unable to load bitmap” – If Connecter encounters any errors when trying to read or generate a preview, they’ll be logged in detail, providing the necessary information to determine what issues occurred during the processing.

  • “Dedicated Instances not set up” – Processing the 3ds Max material assets (.mat) and Revit families (.rfa) is done using the Dedicated services. If they’re not set up, Connecter will log an error when processing .mat or .rfa assets. You’ll need to set up the Dedicated services before running the harvesting process.

  • “Unexpected error while reading the thumbnail” – This error can occur if the harvesting process encounters any unexpected errors while processing the assets.
