Overview

The Shared Content Metadata feature allows users to filter the Assets View by multiple predefined filters related to the asset's metadata, like aspect ratio, size, date created, etc.

The content metadata filtering works on a third level, with the Asset types and the secondary catalog metadata filtering being the 1st and 2nd levels, respectively. So, for any asset subset in the Assets View, the metadata filters are applied at the end after the Asset types, and then the secondary filters are first applied.

For example, suppose you filter by "Images" asset type, "assets with custom properties," catalog metadata, and "2:3 aspect ratio" content metadata. In that case, Connecter will first filter the Asset view and keep only the images, then filter the images and keep only those having custom properties, and finally filter the remaining ones to show you only those with a 2:3 aspect ratio.

Using the content metadata filtering

The metadata filters are available through a dedicated filter toggle button after the catalog metadata secondary filters.

To filter the assets view, click the filter toggle button and select one or more available filtering options. There may not be available indexed metadata for some filters yet - in this case, the filter dropdown will show not all but only the available filters.

This is the case when the Metadata Harvester is yet to process assets and add the metadata to the shared content metadata data pool. The user will see the related filtering options once the data gets added and the particular Connecter instance generates the relevant indexes.

In contrast with the asset types and catalog metadata filters, the content metadata filters don't show the number of assets in the view relating to the filters to avoid significant performance issues.

As a result, for any Asset view, all predefined content metadata filters are available in the filtering UI. This means that before you select any filter, you don't know if any assets are related to it in the current view, and the filtering can often lead to an empty Assets View.

By default, the Assets View will show all assets related to one or more of the selected content metadata filters. A toggle button allows you to switch between this default mode and the "Show combined" one in which only assets that relate to ALL selected filters get displayed in the Assets View.

When one or more filters are selected, a "Reset Filters" button appears and shows the number of selected filters. Clicking the button deselects all filters.
