To open  AI Studio’s Annotation Genie (Annotation Genie), go to Tools > AI Studio > Annotation Genie.

Step 1: AI Annotation Preview

In this step, you get a quick one-time look at how AI-driven annotation works on a small selection of your assets. It provides a hands-on opportunity to evaluate the quality and relevance of the generated annotation metadata, helping you understand how the technology enhances asset organization and discoverability.

NOTE: If skipped, this step won’t appear again, and you’ll go straight to the main workflow next time.

  • Choose and add five assets by dragging them into the annotation slots from Connecter or your File Explorer.
    • To replace an asset, drag and drop a new asset over an existing slot.
  • Click “Show Me the Magic!” to start annotating your selected assets.

This demonstration is free of charge, and the generated metadata isn’t saved in your library.

Step 2: Library Scan

The Library Scan identifies all eligible assets in your Connecter library for AI annotation, displaying insights such as total assets, percentage ready for annotation, and those not eligible.

To begin, click “Start” in the dialog box. After the scan, the “Library Insights” summary provides key statistics, showing what part of the library is ready for annotation, what needs additional setup, and a breakdown of your library’s composition:

  • Your Asset Library: Shows the total number of assets, folders, and disk space used by your library.
  • Your Assets by Type: Breaks down assets by categories, such as 3d assets, materials, images, BIM, and other asset type categories
  • Your Asset Catalog: Highlights cataloged assets, including those with custom previews, which are essential for annotation readiness.

Annotation Readiness

The summary provides an overview of asset readiness for AI annotation, categorized as follows:

  • Ready to Annotate: Assets with sufficient visual context, which AI Studio can immediately process.
  • Ready with Previews: Assets without their own visual context but with custom previews available for annotation. Any annotation metadata will be derived from these previews.
  • Not Ready: Assets that lack both a visual context and custom previews are ineligible for annotation. You can add custom previews to make these assets annotation-ready.
  • Annotated Assets: Assets that were already annotated on a previous run.

Click “Review Assets” to explore specific assets and take any necessary actions to prepare them for annotation. Then click “Proceed” to continue.

Step 3: Select Annotation Metadata Language

In this step, you select the language for annotation metadata from a list of available options. Only new and updated assets will use the chosen language; previously annotated assets keep their metadata generated in the initial language setting.

Step 4: Cost Calculator and Start AI Annotation

This step provides an estimate of annotation costs based on the results of the Library Scan. You can refine which assets to annotate in the “Optimize Your Cost” section by selecting specific root folders or asset types iteratively, helping you manage your spending effectively before initiating the annotation process.

All root folders are selected for annotation by default, but you can choose to annotate assets from only specific root folders. Only top-level (root) folders can be selected or deselected – subfolders are automatically included or excluded based on your root folder selection.

Before starting the annotation process, review the estimated cost alongside your current prepaid balance. If your balance doesn’t cover the total cost, the annotation process will stop partway through, and not all assets will be processed. You can add funds to your prepaid balance as needed to ensure you have enough to complete the full annotation of selected assets.

NOTE: The estimated cost is approximate, and the final cost may vary due to changes in the file system, the availability of required processing services, and other factors.

Initiate AI Annotation

After confirming your preferences and agreeing with the “Terms of Use,” click “Confirm and Start AI Annotation” to begin. This will display a progress dialogue where you can monitor ongoing costs, annotated asset counts, and generated labels and descriptions.

Your AI Annotation Magic Is Ready

Once the annotation is completed, this dialog will appear to provide a summary for you to review final counts, a quick link to explore the generated labels, any errors, and processing costs.
