Since the annotation process can take time, Connecter provides tools to update you on its progress, including details about errors and important notifications.
Monitoring the Annotation Genie
If you start the annotation process using the Annotation Genie, the easiest way to monitor its status is to reopen the tool by navigating to Tools > AI Studio > Annotation Genie. This will display the “Your AI Annotation Magic Is in Progress” dialog, giving you real-time updates on the process with information about:
- Started: The start time and date of the annotation process.
- Annotated assets: Total annotated so far, updated in real-time.
- Generated labels: The current total generated. Click the "Arrow" icon next to the number to view details about the generated labels in the AI Studio Labels interface.
- Generated descriptions: The current total generated;
- Annotation failed assets: Displays the number of assets for which annotation metadata could not be generated. Click the "Arrow" icon to review these assets.
- Accumulated Cost: Running total of annotation costs and available prepaid balance with an option to add funds. If you’ve just added funds to your prepaid balance, click the “Refresh” icon next to your current balance to update the displayed amount.
NOTE: You can stop annotation at any time. Already generated labels remain, and associated costs are charged.
Using the Annotation Scheduler
Another way to monitor the annotation process is through the Annotation Scheduler, which provides detailed information about ongoing and last annotation run.
In the “CURRENT ANNOTATION RUN” section, you’ll find the same elements as the progress dialog in the Annotation Genie. This dialog offers real-time updates on the current process started in the Annotation Scheduler.
Additionally, the “LAST ANNOTATION RUN” section displays information about previous annotation runs. That includes the status (e.g., finished, failed), the completion time, and key details about the metadata generated during that run, allowing you to review the outcomes of past processes.
Using the Process Manager
The Process Manager in Connecter provides detailed insights into all ongoing processes, helping power users monitor their current statuses, view activity logs, and address any reported errors. This tool is handy for troubleshooting and managing processes, allowing users to take actions like stopping or restarting them – similar to the Task Manager in Windows.
To open the Process Manager, go to Tools > Process Manager.
The AI Studio annotation process appears in the Process Manager as “AI Annotation Service.” Here’s what you can do:
- View status: Check whether the service is running (e.g., Running, Stopped).
- Activity logs: Click the number in the “Activity” row to view detailed logs of all actions the annotation process performs.
- Error details: If errors occur, click the number in the “Errors” row to see a list of reported issues and troubleshoot as needed.
To stop the annotation process forcibly:
- Select “AI Annotation Service” from the list.
- Click the “Stop” button in the dialog that appears.
Stopping the Annotation Process
Once started, you cannot pause the annotation process; you can only stop it. If you stop the process, Connecter will keep all metadata generated up to that point and make it immediately available in all related workflows.
You can restart the annotation process at any time using either the Annotation Genie or the Annotation Scheduler. When a new annotation run begins, AI Studio will automatically skip previously annotated assets and continue processing the remaining unannotated ones. That ensures no progress is lost, and the process picks up right where it left off.
