The Preview Panel displays a comprehensive view of your tagging structure, combining any existing tags from the Tags Panel (your current tagging system) with new tags added from the Tags and Templates Panel or created by you. This panel provides a visual preview of how the tagging system will look if you save your changes, allowing you to refine and review your setup before committing to updates.

Designing your tagging system

  • Preview Mode for new tags: Tags added from the Tags and Templates Panel appear in “Preview Mode” with an info icon, indicating that they haven’t yet been saved to the tagging system. Existing tags from the Tags Panel will appear without this icon, distinguishing them from unsaved tags.

  • Limitations for existing tags: To prevent unintentional changes to your established tagging system, existing tags from the Tags Panel can’t be moved or deleted in the Preview Panel. Only tags added in Preview Mode (from the Tags and Templates Panel) can be moved or deleted, ensuring the safety of your current tagging structure. However, you’re free to rename the existing tags and enhance them with custom icons, colors, and tag aliases. You can also create new subtags or move tags to them in Preview Mode.

  • Icon and color previews: As you assign new icons and colors to tags using the Custom Icons and Colors Panel, these visual changes are shown immediately in the Preview Panel. That allows you to see exactly how your tagging structure will look once updates are applied.

You can also perform the following actions:

  • Create new tags: Use the “+” icon in the header to create a new tag, or hover over a tag and select the “Create New Subtag” option from the right-click contextual menu.

  • Arrange tags: Select one or more tags added from the Tags and Templates panel or just created in the Tag Assistant and drag them to move them to another position in the tagging system, as you would normally do in the Tags Panel.
  • Edit tags: Feel free to rename or delete tags as you’d normally do in the Tags Panel by using the commands in the right-click contextual menu when you hover over a tag.

NOTE: Existing tags can’t be moved or deleted in the Preview Panel; they can only be renamed or enhanced with icons and colors. Moving or deleting tags is limited to those added in Preview Mode.

  • Order your tags: In the Tag Assistant, you can arrange your tag structure by name or custom order, just like in the Tags Panel. When you open the Tag Assistant, it’ll reflect the current ordering from the Tags Panel. However, any changes to the order made in the Tag Assistant won’t automatically apply to the Tags Panel. For instance, if you switch to “Order” in the Tag Assistant, you’ll need to manually set the same order in the Tags Panel after saving and exiting.

  • Filter the tags: Use the search option to instantly filter tags by name, just like in the Tags Panel. For more details, refer to the Tags Panel guide.

Managing your changes

The Preview Panel offers several commands to help you manage changes to your tagging structure:

  • Reset All Changes: This command discards all modifications made in the Tag Assistant, restoring your tagging structure to its original state.

  • Undo and Redo: Reverses the most recent change or reapplies an action that was undone, letting you step back or move forward through changes if needed.

Applying changes to your tagging system

When you’re ready to finalize your setup, click “Save Tags” to apply these changes to your tagging system. Upon saving, tags in Preview Mode will be added to the Tags Panel from the Tag Assistant.

NOTE: This action can't be undone, so review your changes carefully before confirming.
