Overview

The Image Editor tool introduces essential image manipulation capabilities directly within Connecter's Lightbox. With this tool, you can rotate, mirror, and crop single or multiple image assets without leaving the application. These operations are part of an integrated workflow designed to extend the Lightbox experience seamlessly.

Future enhancements, such as image resizing, color adjustments, and markup tools, will further expand these editing capabilities.

Accessing the Image Editor

The Image Editor becomes accessible when an image (or a selection of images) is opened in the Lightbox via the Preview Asset command. Initiating any image operation, such as rotate, mirror, or crop, closes the Lightbox and opens the Image Editor in the same context.

Rotate and Mirror Operations

You can apply rotation or mirroring directly by clicking the corresponding button. This action opens the Image Editor, automatically previews the change, and enables you to save or cancel.

  • Rotate buttons: Rotates the image 90° clockwise or counterclockwise with each click.
  • Mirror buttons: Flips the image horizontally or vertically.

Cropping Mode

Cropping introduces a dedicated mode with additional UI elements for defining the crop area. To enter:

  1. Click the Crop icon from the toolbar in the Image Editor.
  2. The UI expands to reveal crop-specific tools and fields.

The cropping area can be moved, resized, and adjusted using both mouse interaction and toolbar input. Cropping transformations are not saved unless you confirm them explicitly. Exiting cropping mode without saving resets the crop.

Crop Configuration Options

Width / Height in Pixels

Set exact crop dimensions. Fields auto-update when the cropping area is resized manually.

Ratio

Specify aspect ratio via numbers or decimals. A lock option maintains the aspect during resizing.

Aspect Ratio Presets

Apply preconfigured ratios (e.g., 1:1, 4:3, 16:9).

Additional Cropping Tools

  • Reset: Restores the crop area to full image size.
  • Fit Area: Adjusts the cropping area to fit the image boundaries while maintaining its aspect ratio.
  • Preview: Hides the outside area to preview the final crop.
  • Snapping: Crop edges snap to the image edges when they are close.
  • Auto-canvas repositioning: Keeps the crop widget in view during edge adjustments.

Saving and Applying Operations

You can apply multiple operations in sequence – such as rotating, mirroring, and cropping, and then save all changes together using any of the available saving options:

  • Apply and Save: Overwrites the current asset.
  • Apply and save as: Opens the file browser to save a new copy.
  • Apply, save, and preview next: Available if multiple images are selected. Saves and loads the next image in Image Editor, automatically previewing the last operation(s).
  • Apply, save as, and preview next: Available if multiple images are selected. Saves the edited image as a new asset and loads the next image in the selection with the last operation(s) automatically previewed for quick application or adjustment.
  • Apply to all images in the selection and save: Available if multiple images are selected. Batch applies the same operations. A confirmation dialog appears.
  • Copy to clipboard: Copies the edited image to memory for use outside Connecter.

Batch Editing

Batch editing allows the same rotation, mirroring, or cropping operation to be applied to all selected images:

  1. Select multiple image files in the Assets View.
  2. Hover over an image in the selection, right-click on one of them, and choose “Preview Selection” from the contextual menu.
  3. Use all available options in the Image Editor to rotate, mirror, and crop the image as needed.
  4. Once you’re satisfied with the edit, choose Apply to all images in the selection and save command from the More Save Options button.
  5. A confirmation dialog appears before proceeding.
